Group Therapy & Process Groups

A process group is a powerful form of group therapy that focuses on the here-and-now experience, such as how you show up in relationships, how you navigate conflict, and how you make sense of your emotions in real time. Process groups are centered on authentic connection and emotional exploration.

Guided by a skilled therapist, members use the group itself as a safe space to explore patterns, express thoughts and feelings, give and receive feedback, and deepen their self-awareness. Over time, this helps you build stronger relationships, break old habits, and gain clarity about your needs, boundaries, and desires.

  • When the Ground Shifts: Women whose partners have come out as queer, trans, or nonbinary

This group offers a supportive and affirming space for women whose partners have come out as queer, trans, or nonbinary. Whether you’re still in the relationship or navigating separation, this group is designed to help you make sense of your experience while connecting with others going through similar shifts.

This group is led by a licensed therapist with expertise in LGBTQIA+ identities, relational transitions, trauma, and attachment.

Group members can explore their thoughts, emotions, and relationship roles in a safe and nonjudgmental setting. Common topics may include navigating mixed emotions like grief and love, understanding changes in identity and sexuality, setting boundaries while staying connected, and rebuilding self-trust. Members will have the opportunity to share openly, give and receive support, and reflect on their experiences in real time, helping them feel less alone and more grounded during a time of uncertainty and change.

  • Standing Together: Trans and nonbinary service members facing separation

This group offers a supportive and affirming space for trans and nonbinary service members who are facing separation from the military under discriminatory policy. Whether you’re in the middle of separation proceedings or bracing for what’s coming next, this group is designed to help you make sense of your experience while connecting with others going through similar challenges.

This group is led by Dr. Laura Castro, a licensed therapist, certified trauma specialist, and retired Navy senior chief. With firsthand experience as a queer service member serving under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” she brings a deep understanding of military culture, identity suppression, and institutional harm while creating a space for dignity, safety, and truth.

Group members can explore the impacts of involuntary separation through topics such as processing grief and betrayal, navigating fear and uncertainty, managing mental health and stress, accessing affirming resources, and reclaiming a sense of agency. Members can connect with peers in a supportive environment and explore what it means to move forward.
